Katie Salidas - Guest Blog and Contest

Please welcome Katie Salidas author of Immortalis Carpe Noctem. Katie writes about Sin City and our favorite creature of the night.

 Vegas Vampires

If you were a vampire, where would you want to live? For me, it would be Vegas! Well, I actually do live in Vegas, but no, I’m no vamp ... or am I? LoL.

New York may be known as the City that Never Sleeps, but we local Las Vegans are the true nocturnal creatures.  With a 24 hour lifestyle even your average Joe can be found out an about at 3 in the morning, perhaps doing their shopping for the week or maybe just hitting a bar for a drink after work.

It’s well known that vampires are relegated to the night. You know that whole messy, burst into flames thing whenever sunlight is present. So what better a place than one filled with people up at all hours, right? And let’s not forget that the Strip would be considered something akin to a buffet line filled with a smorgasbord of all kinds of exotic cuisine. In the mood for Asian tonight, how about a little French, or maybe you prefer something a little south of the border? Just head on down to the strip for a bite. Ha!

It’s a place where a vampire can thrive as well as stay hidden. Remember, vampires are supposed to be fiction and fantasy. We humans aren’t supposed to know about them. What better way to hide than in plain sight, in a place where living at night is normal?

In my novel I have a clan of vampires living in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Vegas. They don’t hunt in their neighborhood, but they are able to live there without drawing any attention to themselves. This is where the 24 hour lifestyle really helps. As I said above, your average Joe, living in Vegas, could work the later shifts, as many locals here do. It’s so common there is no reason for nosy neighbors to question why you are never seen during the day.

I’m picturing the woman from Bewitched here. Anyone who has seen that classic TV show might remember her. The nosy neighbor always screaming “Abner, come look at the neighbors.”

You won’t find that happening here in Vegas. No one is going to question a neighbor who sleeps all day and only comes out at night. LoL.

So, yeah, if vampires did exist, they would definitely find a home in Sin City. There is plenty of exotic cuisine, a thriving night life, and a community who won’t question why you aren’t around during the day.

Thanks for reading, and if you want to check out my new novel, Immortalis Carpe Noctem, please stop by my website www.RisingSignBooks.com or look for my book wherever books are sold online.

Going from personal preference, I would probably pick Athens, Greece. But if I were thinking logically, I'd pick someplace way up north, with really long nights in the winter, or perhaps Berkeley; they're used to people with weird dietary habits there!
This book sounds terrific! Thanks for the great giveaway!

If I was a vampire, I would pick Alaska. They have alot of days of darkness and I wouldn't have to sleep all the time. Please enter me in contest. Tore923@aol.com

If I was a vampire I'd live someplace in Canada. It would stay dark there longer.

Oh man, it would either be between South Korea or Japan. But I likely would go for Japan!

I absolutely love Vegas! I went their last summer a second time and the experience was exhilarating! This is the first novel I heard of with vampires in Vegas!

I hate to be a copy cat here but I totally agree about Vegas! Nobody would ever question why they never saw you during the day!
Every place else I'd like to live has got lots of sunshine sooo Vegas it is!!

This book sounds really interesting. Hmm, I'd probably go for where I would blend in as a vamp - New Orleans, right? hehe

I'd split my time between the way Northern Hemisphere (Alaska, Canada or Scandinavia) in the winter and the way Southern Hemisphere (either Chile or Argentina) in the summer in order to avoid sunlight as much as possible. Plus, vampires don't feel the cold, right?

I would just chase winter (and short days) - live in the way Northern hemisphere from Oct - Mar and the way Southern hemisphere from Apr - Sept. After all, vampires don't feel cold do they?

I think a big city in Canada, maybe Vancouver. The dense population and diversity would make it a good town to hunt in. They have so many different cultures that no one would take a second look or think twice once they encountered me. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I wouldn't want to live in any one place for very long and I'd want houses all over the world so that I could travel. Guess that means I'd need to be a fairly wealthy vampire:)

A few of the places I'd want to live: Ireland, Monaco, Venice, Toronto, New York, somewhere in Maine, North Carolina.

I think I would hang around my hometown of Providence, RI for awhile, maybe for a few generations. Then after that I would travel the world and/or the US. Of course being that I am a vamp sunshine and good food would be out of the question where ever I went (which gets me annoyed).

I think I agree with Katie. Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps. There would be no trouble finding food.

Strange but I now have an urge to visit New York at night :)

If I was a vampire I would choose Alaska when eternal night actually happens occasionally.

If I was a vampire I would totally live in every country and place I've ever wanted to visit: Ireland, Scotland, Japan, China... I think that would be the best part about being a vampire. You could travel and live anywhere and always come back years later after humans have passed on.

But my first choice would probably be London, I've always wanted to visit there and live in the UK.

thanks =D,

Katie Salidas is a new to me author. Thanks!

If I were practical, I'd say Alaska in the winter due to the long, long nights. Where in the summer???? I guess Scotland is supposed to be cloudy and overcast a lot (not when I was there though).

where would i live? hmmmm...alaska makes good sense, with all the darkness, but vegas and new york never sleep, and the french quarter is appropriately gothic....well, since i'm a vampire, i'll have to explore all of them! i'll have time on my hands, after all!

2 choices really: New Orleans or New York

New York is a city that never sleeps, so there would be plenty to do at night.

New Orleans - I think people almost expect vamps to live there, so I'd just blend in.

I think that Buenos Aires would be a great place to live.
I would rent any Buenos Aires Apartments near to the nightclub.
They have lots of bars and nightclubs and farms!
The wine there is excellent so when you don't have blood, or if you want to try something new the wine would be a great choice.
