Vampire Taxonomy - Contest

Vampire Taxonomy: Identifying and Interacting with the Modern-Day Bloodsucker
by Meredith Woerner

Perigee Trade (November 3, 2009)

[The contest portion has finished. Thanks to everyone who participated!]

Thanks to Perigee two US readers have a chance to win a copy of Vampire Taxonomy.

From the publisher: Our culture today is inundated with beloved blood-thirsty creatures of the night. Referencing a wide variety of well-known bloodsuckers from film, literature, and other media, vampire expert Meredith Woerner provides detailed information about the different types of vampires now roaming the earth, classifying them by their reaction to sun exposure, physiology, attire, and preferred diet. VAMPIRE TAXONOMY will equip readers who meet vamps to answer the question: Should you hand him your heart or stake his before he makes you his next meal?

For the reader's protection, Meredith Woerner reveals the truth about:

•Sunlight sensitivity-Do vamps venture out in the day or stick solely to the evening hours?

•Physiology-When ready to feed, do they change appearance or simply lure with the seductive flash of a fang?

•Dress-Are they decked out in leather with aspirations of becoming the first vampire rock stars or do they cling to Gothic robes and ruffled collars?

•Diet-Are they waging a never-ending struggle against the temptation of human blood or do they view the world as their personal blood buffet?

 Contest

To be eligible do one or more of the following:

*Leave a comment:  Tell what you would do if you met a vampire, ie put a stake through the heart; run screaming into the night, or jump into his/her arms, etc. Use your imagination!
* Link this contest to your own site or a social network site, and be sure to let me know the URL

If your email is not associated with your ID, please put the address in your response.

This contest is open to US residents only.

Contest runs until Nov 16 at 11:59 PM Hawaii Time.

I would sincerely hope that I was having a "bad blood" day and was unattractive to a blood-sucker! Of course, I might change my mind if the Vamp was wickedly attractive with an unnatural charm all his own! Something tells me I might need to read "Vampire Taxonomy" to be better prepared!

It ultimately depends on if it is a Bram Stoker vampire or a Charlaine Harris Eric vampire. One I would stake and the other I would chain to my bed.

2nd - Bad guy? Run & scream
3rd - Good guy? I have a million questions. How long have vampires been around? Do you really drink blood? If there is a bad guy chassing me, how do I kill him?

If the vampires were Bill or Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse stories I think I would stick around but if it was a vamp like Tom Cruise's character in Interview with a Vampire..I would have to disappear..

Like some of the other posters, I would hope that I meet Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse novels or Damon from the Vampire Diaries. I would prepare to be bitten!

My husband teases me saying that I may be a good girl, but I am a fangbanger at heart.

I would offer myself to him as an immediate blood donor. Obviously, I would be hoping for more to come. Watch out, Mr. Vampire, as you, the seducer becomes the seduced.

I like to think that I'd respond with coolheaded aplomb, appropriate to the vampire's demeanor and intentions. But I'd probably just stand there frozen, openmouthed, entirely awed.

I would only stick a stake through the heart if the vampire was making threatening advances. However, if he/she seemed disinterested in my blood. I would try to get into their good graces and learn their history. I can see advantages to befriending a vampire.

If I met a vampire, I'm afraid I'd have to tell him/her that they are a bit too late to take my blood. If they'd arrived about 17 years ago, then I'd be an eager and willing participant in whatever fun little feeding games they'd like to play, but now that I'm a mommy, pregnant with my 5th (yes, omg yes it's the 5th!!!), they're just too late, my blood is completely and wholly devoted to my family and the little bloodsuckers I bear. the mommy at your impact matters dot com

PLEASE, let it be a good-looking, single vampire! When we met, I'd ask him "If I let you suck my blood, would that make me immortal?" If he answered with a yes. I would say,"If you can tell me the most erotic place on my body to bite me, I'll let you." Once he answered, I would step in very close, as if to whisper in his ear, and knee him in the groin. When he bent forward in pain, I would put my cross necklace to his forhead, burning it into his skin, as a warning to others, then run like hell!

I’d ask him if he was going to give up his lust for blood, in honor of his passionate lust and/or love of me. If he says no, I will respond “oh…” then “Are you sure?"

Hopefully the vampire in question - if he dosn't have a passionate lust and/or love of me - will have a sense of humor and won't be very hungry.

I'd start by talking to it and seeing how friendly it was... then I'd call hubby to deal with it either way. He *always* seems to have a pencil, either he could take notes or it'd make a pretty good stake!

I would be so curious as I am and start asking questions. It would be my very own interview with a vampire thing you know. I don't think I would be scared. It would be something like this: "OH my god your a vampire? That's so cool? So what is it like to be part of the undead? So do you drink blood from only people or from other things? etc etc. you get the picture.

souldolphindream said...

I would ask him
"What took you so long to come to me? I have been calling for days!.
I would then touch his cheek. The cheek that I had already seen in my dreams.
Dang time to wake up!The dog has to go out.LOL

If I meet a vampire, the first think I'll do is turn up my collar and wrap my scarf a bit tighter around my neck. I wouldn't mind palling around with a vampire, but I don't want to become one. I've worked graveyard shift before. It's no fun.

I'm afraid I'm not very original... I'm with the majority on this one, it depends on what kind of vamp it was. I'd hope for a super sexy he-vamp like the ones that star in the books I'm a bit addicted to - and then I'd do my darndest to keep him.

Thanks for the chance to win - sounds like something that would appeal to my whole family (Wow - what does that say about us???)

I would certainly ask him/her for an autograph, in blood of course. I have never met a vampire so far as I know. If I do, I would like something to remember the occasion.

Well how would I know it was a vampire... did it tell me or is it baring it fangs while lunging itself at my neck? meh... either way I don't have much of a chance I am sure... but i wouldn't go down without a fight.
