The latest word is that True Blood, the series based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, will debut on HBO in September, 2008.

There is a copy of the first episode of True Blood floating around on the web. It isn't too bad but it isn't amazingly good either. I think they got the wrong actress for Sookie but maybe I will warm up to her when the series really starts.
I have heard others comment that Anna Paquin may not be right for the role as Sookie. I hope that's not the case.
I love the book series so much that I'm really hoping the HBO version will succeed.
Time will tell.
