Bertena Varney was born in Pikeville, KY. She moved to Winchester, KY where she attended George Rogers Clark High School. When she graduated in 1989 she began her studies at Morehead State University. Her studies included the following:

She has been employed as a middle and high school as well as college instructor. Here past employers include Morehead State University, Eastern Kentucky University and National College and she currently lectures at Bowling Green Community College.
Currently she is planning her lecture tour schedule. In the past she has presented papers at conference such as The Sirens Conference in Vail, Colorado and The Harry Potter Witching Hour in Salem, Mass. Currently she is scheduled for ScareFest, Dance on the Dark Side and A Day of Mystical Blood Lust, as well as BG Tech, Bourbon County Library and other local libraries and colleges.
She is also planning to begin a pop culture vampire course based upon her studies of vampires in pop culture.
